Our Guest Speaker is Dr. Bill Herzog II

William R. Herzog II (Bill) is widely respected for his Biblical scholarship, his popular teaching style, and his outspoken commitment to justice. He has published three studies of the historical Jesus: Parables as Subversive Speech: Jesus as Pedagogue of the Oppressed; Jesus, Justice and the Reign of God; and Prophet and Teacher: An Introduction to the Historical Jesus as well as numerous other articles. Working with a faculty colleague, Christopher Evans, he has co-edited a collection of essays entitled The Faith of Fifty Million: Essays on Baseball, Religion and American Culture. He is a life long member of the Red Sox Nation. Bill comes to Andover Newton from Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School, where he served as the Sallie Knowles Crozer Professor of New Testament Interpretation. During his tenure there he also served for ten years as Dean of the Faculty and Vice President for Academic Life.

Narola Imchen Jamir is Professor in the Department of the History of Christianity at Eastern Theological College, Jorhat, in the State of Assam in India. The College was established by American Baptist Missions in 1905. She earned her Master’s Degree from the United Theological College, Bangalore, and her Doctorate from the South Asia Theological Research Institute.

Narola is deeply interested in women’s issues, and is actively involved in creating awareness of women’s issues, especially in northeast India. She has written a number of books, and has contributed a number of articles to various journals and books focusing on women’s issues.

She is married to Dr. Lima Jamir, who is Professor of New Testament in the same college. They have two children - a daughter Anungla Jamir, and a son Aosen Jamir. Narola, Lima, and Aosen are at Andover Newton on sabbatical leave.

Kurt Allan Walker - tenor - As a 10 year veteran of the Tanglewood Festival Chorus of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, he has had the pleasure of performing with leading classical conductors including Levine, Ozawa, Shaw and Sir Marriner in some of the world’s finest concert halls including a European tour in the summer of 2001 and many appearances at Carnegie Hall. He can be heard singing background vocals and appearing in a video montage on James Taylor’s summer concert tour 2006, on the motion picture Soundtrack for Mystic River as well as the Boston Pops recording A Splash of Pops. Kurt has performed solo work with various choruses throughout Eastern Massachusetts including Beethoven’s Mass in C Major, excerpts from Mendelssohn's Elijah and most recently Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass. Kurt performs at weddings and various concert events as a member of the group No Strings Attached. This cappella quartet can be heard on several recordings for Massachusetts choral festivals that are used by high school students across the state to prepare for their auditions. Kurt has been a featured soloist at his home church; Central Square Congregational Church in Bridgewater. After having received the National School Chorale Award in high school, Kurt was a featured Chamber Singer at Bridgewater State College under the direction of Dr. Jacob Liberles. Kurt studied for many years with Lin Wallin Schuller of Easton.
