The following is a Christian Work Project sponsored in part by a grant from the Boston Baptist Social Union.

Primera Iglesia Bautista Hispana de Jamaica Plain

Ministry & Mission

Pedro Munoz, The church Pastor is working with several pastors in Boston. And they have established a three day retreat call Encuentro. This is done every other month
and November is done for the men and in January for the women. There is a lot of issues in our communities and we address this issues, spiritual needs and family-type issues. The goal have been to trained this people to help address the specific needs of people in attendance, and train those lay leaders from churches to minister to them as an outreach vehicle for for the church.

The Church is Supporting and has expanded a ministry of compassionate care to the elderly and shut-ins in the area.  This is an ongoing ministry to many Hispanic elderly and
shut-ins in the neighborhood. Also visiting people in hospices and senior housing, providing food, cooking and  feeding many of them. Also taking many of them to their medical appointments and translating for them when needed.

Ministry to the shut-ins has probably touched the lives of  60-80 people during the past year. The areas encompass  Jamaica Plain and some surrounding neighborhoods. Most are Spanish-speaking. We want to support, and hope to expand this outreach to at least double the number.

The goal is have at least eight retreat for the youth also, that is in need of some one reaching to them besides the older generation with a goal of reaching 40-50 at each retreat, they are the church of the future, because a church with out youth is a church destined to die out and we don't want that to happen in our churches. The area is Boston and surrounding neighborhoods like Jamaica Plain, Hyde Park, Roslindale, Roxbury, Dorchester, etc.

The program is reaching out to Spanish-speaking people but the goal is to reach everyone.
