Choral Fellows and Scholars
The Choral Fellows and Scholars program began in September with generous support from BBSU. Because of the nature of the church calendar, the program runs from September to June.
The first five years of the program have been successful beyond all expectations. Each year also reveals new growing edges which we will address at the end.
Traditional choral music in the American church is in a period of staggering decline, having been supplanted by modern, non-participatory forms of music and/or forms of music requiring little to no formal training. The
First Baptist Church of Medford has - to a large extent - defied this trend. The parish maintains an ambitious music program with skilled staff and highly motivated volunteers dedicated to preserving the traditions and artistry of liturgical music and to seeing these traditions continue in a vibrant way.
