About the Program

Our special speaker for this evening is Dr. Ron Abbott, Sustainability Technical Manager, Chevron Phillips Chemical company. He is responsible for advancing technical programs to advance long term global sustainability objectives.

Abbott earned his B.S degree in chemistry from the University of Vermont, his Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry under F. Albert Cotton at Texas A&M University. He worked as a post doctoral research associate under Dr. Richard Lagow at the University of Texas in Austin.

Upon completing his doctoral studies in chemistry, Abbott began his career with Phillips Petroleum Company as a refining catalyst chemist. Throughout nearly three decades with Phillips Petroleum Company, Chevron Chemical Company, and now Chevron Phillips Chemical Company, he has held a range of management assignments including Facility Manager for the Kingwood Research & Technology Center, Petrochemicals R&D Manager,Normal Alpha Olefins Global Product Manager and Polyethylene Catalyst R&D Manager. He has led teams that successfuly commercialized several key technologies including the world's first selective 1-Hexene process and Phillips' ReVap alkylation process for gasoline manufacture. Abbott holds 26 U.S. patents in plastics and petrochemical process technolgy.

He and his wife Andrea Sulak have been married over 31 years and have two grown sons. Ron and Andrea feel led to be be engaged with Christian organizations that are working to alleviate extreme poverty. Their efforts have included sponsoring 10 children through Compassion International, drilling water wells with Living Water International and working collaboratively with Hope International to develop savings groups in developing communities. All three are Christ centered organizations working through the local church who believe that the the local church is the hope of the world.
